NPTF Pipe Hex Reducer Bushing - Part 5406

Part Number: 5406

NPTF Pipe Hex Reducer Bushing

Product Overview

The Delphi Fittings Part 5406 is an NPTF Pipe Hex Reducer Bushing, expertly designed to connect pipes or fittings of different NPTF thread sizes. This essential component features a larger male NPTF (Dryseal) thread on the exterior for installation into a larger female port, and a smaller female NPTF (Dryseal) thread on the interior to accept a smaller male NPTF fitting. Crafted from robust carbon steel and equipped with a hex head for easy installation with a wrench, the Part 5406 ensures a secure, leak-proof reduction in line size for various hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial piping systems.

Key Features & Specifications

Material High-Grade Carbon Steel
Thread Configuration Male NPTF (External) x Female NPTF (Internal) - Reducing (ANSI B1.20.3, SAE J476)
Body Style Hexagonal Head (Hex Bushing) for wrench tightening.
Sealing Mechanism NPTF Dryseal threads provide a reliable metal-to-metal seal, designed to be effective without sealant.
Corrosion Protection Standard Zinc Plating for enhanced durability and corrosion resistance.
Primary Function To reduce the thread size from a larger female port to a smaller male NPT/NPTF fitting.
Working Pressure Suitable for various hydraulic and pneumatic system pressures. Specific pressure ratings are dependent on size and application conditions.
Temperature Range Designed for standard operating temperatures in fluid power systems; actual range depends on the fluid media and specific application.

Applications

The Part 5406 NPTF Pipe Hex Reducer Bushing is widely utilized in systems requiring adaptation to smaller pipe or fitting sizes:

  • Reducing port sizes on manifolds, valves, pumps, and cylinders in hydraulic systems.
  • Adapting connections in pneumatic circuits for instrumentation or smaller actuators.
  • Automotive applications for fluid lines.
  • Process piping in chemical plants and manufacturing facilities.
  • General plumbing and fluid transfer systems where line size changes are necessary.
  • Installation of gauges, sensors, or other components with smaller NPTF threads into larger ports.

Installation & Usage Guidelines

  • Ensure the male threads of the bushing and the female threads of the port, as well as the internal female threads of the bushing and the mating male fitting, are clean, undamaged, and free of debris.
  • Apply a compatible thread lubricant to the male NPTF threads of the bushing before installation into the larger female port. This aids in assembly and ensures proper sealing. If mating the internal female threads with a standard NPT male fitting (not NPTF), sealant should be applied to that male fitting.
  • Thread the reducer bushing into the larger female port by hand initially, then use a correctly sized wrench on the hex head to tighten it securely.
  • Thread the smaller male NPTF fitting into the internal female threads of the bushing, hand-tightening first, then using a wrench on the smaller fitting. Use a backup wrench on the hex head of the bushing if necessary to prevent it from loosening from the main port.
  • Tighten to appropriate torque specifications. Avoid over-tightening, as this can damage the bushing, port, or mating fitting.

Why Choose Delphi Fittings Part 5406?

  • Efficient Size Reduction: Allows for seamless connection between components of different NPTF thread sizes.
  • Secure and Easy Installation: The hex head design provides a positive grip for wrenches, facilitating proper torque and a secure fit.
  • Leak-Proof Design: NPTF Dryseal threads are engineered for a tight, metal-to-metal seal, minimizing leak paths.
  • High-Quality Material: Constructed from durable carbon steel for long-lasting performance under pressure.
  • Industry Standards: Manufactured to meet or exceed relevant SAE and ANSI specifications for NPTF threads.
  • Reliability: Backed by Delphi Fittings' commitment to quality and ISO 9001:2015 certification.
